Why Yumi No Kido Ha?
As a dedicated Karate-Do Instructor, I have become recognized and well respected for my contribution to a development of specific -scientifically based- approach to studying of Karate-Do. After training with some of the greatest karate instructors in the world and spending time applying scientific principles to my own training I developed my own unique and effective teaching methods expressed through metaphor which was titled "Yumi no Kido Ha" of Shotokan style.
While discussing validity of sport (science!) in sport karate training and competing environment with prominent Japanese instructor (head of major karate style) I have used the following question:"Is there any difference in the flight of an arrow shot in Kyudo compared to the one shot in Olympic archery?" The nature of this question -being similar to Zen koan puzzling questions- has lead to an instant of enlightenment!
These are major determinants forming YNK ha:
Purpose must be clear in order to make training successful.
The entire movement sequence exists in all valid techniques, only duration of components may be condensed.
Breath dictates rhythm within movement sequence.
Kumite must always return into Kata.
At the height of the skill no one is allowed to return to the basics.
